MACT - Maximum Achievable Control Technology. Applied to major sources of air pollution emitting listed air toxics.

MAKEUP AIR - Air that is brought into a building from outdoors through the ventilation system and has not been previously circulated through the system.

MAP - EPA Model Accreditation Plan for asbestos abatement established in the AHERA regulation (40 CFR Part 763, Subpart E, Appendix C).

MEDICAL TREATMENT - Treatment of injuries administered by physicians, registered professional personnel, or nonmedical personnel; does not include first aid treatment.

MESOTHELIOMA - A rare form of cancer, associated with asbestos exposure, that develops in the lining of the chest or abdominal cavity.

MISCELLANEOUS MATERIALS - Interior asbestos- containing material used on structural components, structural members, or fixtures. Does not include surfacing materials or thermal system insulation.

MONITORING WELL - An arrangement of hollow piping constructed to provide ongoing surveillance and monitoring of groundwater and soil conditions.
