Glossary of Common Internet Terms

F
FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions. Documents
that can be found on the world wide web related to the most-often asked
questions on a particular subject.
FH - Free Hosting. Most free hosting services
allow 1-5 megs of space and unlimited bandwidth, but check the rules before
signing up. It's also wise to find out if the hosting service will be placing
banners or other advertising on your site.
Freeware - Software that is free for use by
the internet public. However, some freeware programs, images, or utilities
are limited for use on non-commercial sites. Beware -- as soon as you add a
banner, it is considered to be a commercial site. Don't violate any terms
of use or you may face fines, etc.
FTP - File Transfer Protocol. This is a standardized method
for exchanging files between systems on the internet. It's an alternate way to get
files from a server or send files to a server. Primarily used by webmasters
to update pages on a website.
