Bandwidth - A measure of the volume of information that can be transmitted over a network at a given time. A network is like a water pipe -- the higher the bandwidth (the larger the diameter of the pipe), the more data (water) can pass over the network (through the pipe).

BBS - Bulletin Board System. A dial-up computerized meeting and announcement system for carrying on discussions, uploading and downloading files, and generally obtaining online information and services.

Bookmark - A pointer to a particular web site. Within browsers, you can bookmark interesting pages so you can return to them easily.

Bps - Bits per second - A measurement of how fast data is moved from one place to another. A 28.8 modem can move 28,800 bits per second.

Browsers - Programs which allow you to surf the web. All browsers are slightly different from each other. The most commonly used browsers are MSIE (Microsoft Internet Explorer) and Netscape (Navigator or Communicator). Different versions of each are available for free download from the net. BW - Bandwidth. The amount of data sent through a network connection measured in BPS (bits per second). An important thing to ask about when choosing a paid host is the amount of bandwidth allowed for the price. The bandwidth used will greatly affect the monthly charges.
